One of my new years resolutions this year was to start saying yes a lot more. I’m too often susceptible to staying in my comfort zone because, well, that’s where I am most comfortable. But I’ve realised that by turning things down, I’m not going to get where I want to be in life. The outcome of using those 3 letters could actually surprise me.
So I recently binge-watched my way through Gossip Girl and I actually learned a valuable tip from one of the episodes. Serena noticed that Chuck seemed to be a lot happier than he was before the summer. He told her that this was because he had started to say yes to trying and experiencing new things. She went and tried the same thing and found that so many more opportunities presented themselves to her. So I thought I’d give this a go as well!
New experiences can be scary, especially if you are like me and stick to what you know best. But you never know what might happen if you don’t at least try. I have been trying to have the outlook on life where I say to myself ‘go for it’. I’m never going to grow in myself if I don’t make the most of an opportunity when it is given to me.
I was asked whether I was interested in going to a blogging event that was coming up in London. I had never been to London by myself before so it would have been easy to just say no because of this. Instead, I pushed myself to say yes and bought the ticket straight away, saying that I’d figure out how I would get to the venue later. And I’m so grateful to myself that I said yes because I’ve been able to meet a couple of lovely bloggers who are also going!
But don’t forget that as well as saying yes to new opportunities, say yes to looking after yourself as well. If you are trying to stay healthy for the week but your friend invites you for a coffee and cake – say yes! You are allowed a treat so don’t miss out! Say yes to going to yoga or dance even when you have lots of work to do. It’s good to take a break and get some exercise!
You never know what may come of saying ‘Yes’. You may get to meet new people or it may even result in a new job opportunity. You never know if you don’t go for it!
Lots of love,
