We all have our good days and we all have our bad days. It’s okay to not be okay all of the time, we’re only human. If you’re struggling to keep positive, you are not alone. But remember, it is important to look after yourself, your physical and mental wellbeing. Don’t forget to spare some time to focus on YOU. Here are a few self-care tips I stick by.
It’s okay to be selfish sometimes
Put yourself first for a change! If you want to stay in and have a cosy night watching films instead of going to the party – do it! Do things for yourself regardless of what other people think because at the end of the day, you come first.
Don’t compare yourself to others
This is a losing battle so focus on what YOU are good at and let that shine through. Don’t believe you should be doing what everyone else is doing, do what makes you happy. I have been guilty of doing this for a while and it’s not worth it. Everyone is different – be the best you can be!
Look after your body
Make sure you are giving your body everything it needs to stay healthy. This means trying not to forget to drink lots of water and eat plenty of fruit and veg. Also, try to get some regular exercise, even if its only a 20 minute walk each day.
Don’t feel guilty for taking some time to give your body some much deserved TLC. Use that new body moisturiser, paint your nails or use that face mask. Light those scented candles and have a nice long soak in the bath. If you feel great in your own skin, it will show! A little pamper time always makes me feel so much better if I’m stressed.
Take time to relax
Switch from everything for a little while, including your phone. Perhaps do some yoga or meditation. Do some breathing exercises to calm your mind and fight off any stress. Listen to some mindfulness podcasts and focus on everything positive in your life.
Try not to over think things
I have been guilty of this for a long time, but you are probably creating a problem that wasn’t there in the first place! Try not to look for negatives in a situation for the sake of it because that will only make you unhappy and doubtful.
Create a comfortable, calming living space
Your environment can really influence the way you feel. Make sure your living space is your happy place. Make it a cosy haven. This means getting some comfy cushions, lighting some scented candles and maybe even hanging some fairy lights. Buy a couple of plants or flowers to brighten the room and display some photos that mean a lot to you.
Have a massive tidy out of your bedroom or living space. Throw out any old clothes that no longer fit you, unsubscribe to any junk emails that keep popping up and delete any old files from your laptop. Also, don’t forget to emotionally de clutter as well. Let go of old grudges and make a list of everything that is in your mind so that you can clearly see your thoughts in front of you. This really helps to calm me down when I’m stressed about a lot of things at once.
You are the most important thing in your life. Look after yourself!
Let me know if you have any self-care rituals you stand by!
Lots of love,
